During the kickoff show for night one of Wrestlemania 41, WWE would announce not only the Worlds Collide event for June 7th, they would also announce the acquisition of legendary lucha libre company AAA.

Michael Cole would make the announcement with some of WWE’s talent behind him such as the LWO (Mysterio, Dragon Lee, Cruz Del Toro & Joaquin Wilde), Rey Fenix, Penta, Andrade, Legado Del Fantasma and NXT’s Stephanie Vaquer, as well as a surprise appearance from AAA’s El Hijo del Vikingo.

The CEO and General Manager of AAA Dorian Peńa would call this “the beginning of a new chapter in the story of Lucha Libre.” He would then go on to discuss the familial history for himself and AAA with the crowd chanting “Lucha!” in the background.

Triple H would thank the people involved in the deal, stating that he has “nothing but respect for what you have created” and “nothing but respect for Lucha Libre.”

With this acquisition, whilst public details remain sparce, it is within reason to assume that WWE also acquires the talent from the show such as the aforementioned El Hijo del Vikingo, as well as the likes of Laredo Kid, El Hijo de Wagner Jr., and the current AAA Mega champion Alberto El Patron who according to Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful higher-ups within the WWE had stated that there was “no f–king chance” that he would return to the WWE.
